Equipment isn't an end in itself
You don't hear or see good equipment. You only notice when it's missing: when a voice sounds thin, when the room echoes, when a face is in shadow. That's why everything in our studio is permanently set up and matched before you arrive. And that's why there's always a producer on hand who knows what they're doing.
Sound: broadcast quality for every voice
- Shure SM7dB: the dynamic broadcast microphone you know from radio and big podcasts. It captures your voice with a warm, close sound and largely blocks out the room.
- DJI Mic 3: wireless lavalier microphones for when someone moves around or a classic microphone would get in the way of the shot.
- RØDECaster Pro II: the heart of the audio recording. All microphones connect here, and each one is leveled individually.
- A separate track per person: up to four people, each on their own audio track. That makes post-production easier, even if you talk over each other.
With finished episode, production day with editing and series, every voice is processed in mixing and mastering after the recording and optimized for Spotify and Apple Podcasts. How a recording works is explained at Record a podcast in Düsseldorf.
Picture: up to 4 cameras in 4K with AI tracking
For video podcasts, up to four OBSBOT Tail 2 cameras in 4K run at the same time: three are standard, the fourth is available as an add-on for single recordings and production days. The high resolution gives you room in the edit: You can pull tight crops and vertical clips from a single shot without the picture turning to mush. Then there's AI auto-tracking: If you lean forward, stand up or turn to the side, the camera follows you. That cuts down on readjusting during the recording.
Multiple angles mean the edit can switch to whoever is speaking or to whoever is reacting. That's exactly what turns a conversation into something people enjoy watching for 40 minutes. If you need vertical Reels, mention it when you book. Then we'll set the framing so that vertical and horizontal both work from the same recording.
Everything about formats, post-production and delivery times for video is on the page Video podcast studio in Düsseldorf.
Live directing: editing starts during the recording
The cameras run through a GoStream switcher. Your producer switches live between the angles, like in a TV control room. That has two advantages: They see right away if a shot isn't right. And if your package includes editing, post-production can build on that live cut instead of starting from scratch.
On top of that, each camera delivers its own file. In the packages with editing, the best angle is chosen for every moment, and in color grading the colors of all cameras are matched so the episode looks seamless.
Light: GVM studio lighting
Studio lighting from GVM is set for you and your guests. No backlight from the window, no harsh shadows under the eyes, no difference between the first and last minute because the sun is going down outside. That matters especially for series: Episode one and episode twenty should look the same.
The producer team
The best equipment is no use if nobody runs it. With us, a producer looks after every recording, from setup to handing over the files. The studio is never an empty room where you're left alone battling with buttons.
- Before the recording: They set up cameras, lights and sound according to your information, set the level for each voice individually and do a test recording.
- During the recording: They direct, switch between cameras, watch levels, picture and time, and let you know if something should be redone.
- After the recording: They back up all files twice and hand them over to post-production, where editing, color grading, mixing and mastering happen depending on the package.
You don't need experience on camera or any technical knowledge. You focus on what you want to say. If you want the entire production under one roof, read on at Podcast production in Düsseldorf.
